New hotel, The Brix, is coming soon

A new hotel is joining the ranks of Trinidad and Tobago’s family of hotels.

The Brix Hotel will open its doors in January 2019. The hotel is a part of the Marriott Autograph Collection, an evolving ensemble of independent hotels.

The announcement was made during a reveal media launch on Tuesday in the space formerly known as the Carlton Savannah, the same space in which The Brix will be occupied.

“This project symbolises a message of support for our efforts to develop the tourism sector, expand our economy, and maintain a decent standard of living for the people of our country. Despite the many challenges, this government is determined to restore economic stability and security, and tourism has a key role to play in achieving the objectives of our development agenda,” said Minister of Tourism, Shamfa Cudjoe.

“The Government of Trinidad and Tobago is focused on attracting, major brands that will bring their own advertising, marketing networks and destination profile enhancement. It is for this very reason that we welcome the investment of Sandals International Resorts in the island of Tobago and now that of the Marriot Autograph Collection in Trinidad,” she said.

She added that the opening of The Brix will add additional rooms to the country’s hotel stock, which will allow for additional employment opportunities and business development.

Cudjoe stated that hotel accommodation was critical to the tourism sector, indicating that the demand for accommodation increased by 6% in 2016. However, the industry still has to compete with more ‘experienced and focused destinations’.

“The traditional accommodation sector now has to compete with HomeAway, AirBnb, and all the other players in the shared economy,” she said.

“We as Trinbagonians must ‘live and breathe’ that warm Trinbago hospitality which will encourage your guests to return to our shores.”
